Shares Outstanding refer to the total number of shares of a company's stock that have been issued and are currently held by investors. These shares have been fully paid for and are available for trading in the stock market. They differ from authorized shares, which are the maximum number of shares a company can issue, and issued shares, which are the total number of shares a company has sold. Share Outstanding vs. Share Float considers the number of shares publicly available for trading, excluding those held by insiders or restricted shareholders.
